Instance Cleaner

Safely delete Eloqua assets: see what depends on them, decide how each reference is handled, and confirm before anything changes.

Supported MAPEloqua

Open Instance Cleaner from Home or go to /agents/adm. You work in a chat + panel workspace: ask the agent to assess your instance or build a cleanup, and the panel shows the dashboard, your Packages, and search results.

Instance Cleaner never deletes blindly. It finds every asset that still references the ones you want gone, lets you remove or replace each reference, and asks you to confirm before anything changes in your Eloqua connection.

Configuring cleanup rules? Admins set default actions, Cruise Control folders, and safety guards under Instance Cleaner settings (/settings/agents/adm in the product).

Interactive walkthrough: click through Instance Cleaner step by step.
Before you start
  • An active Eloqua connection
  • Default actions and safety guards set by an admin (see settings)
  • If your org requires it, sign in to Eloqua with your own user when prompted. The workspace then shows Acting as with your Eloqua username
Clean up assets
Open Instance Cleaner
From Home, choose Instance Cleaner, or open /agents/adm. Ask in chat, for example “What’s safe to remove in my campaigns, and why?”, or work directly in the panel.
Create a Package
A Package is the set of assets you want to delete. On Packages, choose New Package, or New Package from File to start from a CSV of asset IDs. You can also ask the agent to build one, or select rows on Search results and create a Package from them.
Add assets
In the Add assets step, choose Upload a file or Search & add. To search, pick an asset type, enter part of the name, and add the results you want.
Find dependencies
Choose Find dependencies. The Resolve dependencies step lists every asset that still references the ones you plan to delete. If you add more assets later, find dependencies again. Use Recalculate to re-check everything.
Decide each dependency
For each dependency marked Needs you, pick an action: Remove, Replace, Delete, or Keep. For Replace, choose the alternate asset the reference should point to instead. Dependencies you leave open use your admin’s default actions where one is set.
Clear, then delete
Use the split button to choose Clear dependencies only (your assets stay) or Clear dependencies and delete. Review the confirmation dialog, then confirm. Nothing changes in Eloqua before you confirm. Progress shows on the step, and the Package becomes read-only once processed.

Dependency actions
ActionWhat happens to the referring asset
RemoveThe reference is removed. The referring asset stays in Eloqua.
ReplaceThe reference is repointed to an alternate asset you choose, so nothing breaks.
DeleteThe referring asset itself is deleted (offered only where it applies).
KeepNo change. The reference stays, which can block deleting the asset it points to.

Available actions depend on the asset type. Some rows need no decision: Will remove automatically clears when the asset is deleted, Locked means the referring asset is active or scheduled in Eloqua (deactivate it there, then re-run), and Not supported means you review it in Eloqua yourself. Assets in a protected folder are never deleted.

Confirmation dialog before clearing dependencies and deleting assets

DashboardSee cleanup progress across Packages: what needs attention, deleted vs remaining vs blocked assets, backup coverage, and recent activity.
PackagesSearch and filter Packages by status, open one to add assets, resolve dependencies, and clear or delete. Under Advanced, export dependencies or assets as CSV.
Search resultsAppears when the agent finds assets in chat. Filter, select rows, and create a Package from them.
Cruise control. Turn on Cruise control on a Package to skip manual triage. It finds dependencies, applies your default actions, then clears or deletes, still only after you confirm. From chat, runs start as a dry-run preview that changes nothing, and a live run needs your explicit approval.
Deletes are permanent in Eloqua. A backup snapshot is taken right before each live edit or delete, and live changes only proceed when a backup is in place. Otherwise they are skipped and nothing is written. A deleted asset cannot be undone in Eloqua directly; it can only be recovered from that backup.
